MONSTER MONTH: Day 22 – Big Mouth

This little furry guy started as a sketch in one of my sketchbooks a couple of years ago. I decided to resurrect him and flesh him out a bit more into a fun, furry, happy-go-lucky monster!

Big Mouth has a certain sweet innocence about him, but with a mouth like that, he can swallow you whole. His naivetè makes him not realize doing that is a bad thing.

Yeah, he's cute and all, but just remember that without hands, he can't brush his teeth. (Eat a MINT once in awhile! Sheesh!)

TOMORROW I will be revealing here on the blog the winning entry in my latest Cartoon Caption Contest that has been taking place on the Chad Frye • Illustration Guy Fan Page over on Facebook for the past two weeks! And yes, it is also of the monster persuasion!

If you’d like to come cast your vote to determine the winning caption, CLICK HERE! Voting ends TODAY at 3pm California time!

MONSTER MONTH: Day 20 – The Business Lunch

It is not uncommon for colleagues to get together for lunch now and then to discuss business and maintain relationships within the professional field. These get-togethers can be invaluable for future dealings in one’s business, and they build trust. At the end of lunch, there can be little that is more embarrassing than returning to the office with a little food visibly stuck in your teeth. It is a trustworthy colleague indeed, who won’t let you leave the table without letting you know you need a toothpick.

If King Kong and Godzilla did go out on a business lunch, I wanna know who picked up the check!

MONSTER MONTH: Day 18 – I Scream You Scream…

…we ALL scream about how this monster got his ice cream!

Well, the Good Humor man has had better days than this. Lesson learned – don’t get in the way of a monster and his ice cream! Well, that and it’s probably a good idea to finish college so you can get a desk job.

By the way you kiddies - the ice cream man is just taking a nap in some melted strawberry ice cream. Shhhh. Don't wake him.

MONSTER MONTH: Day 17 – Goat Guy

Today’s monster comes in the form of a creepy, elderly, wizened goat guy. Anytime you see some squinty eyes and a Fu Manchu dangling from a dude’s chin, pay close attention to whatever comes out of his mouth. Those are sure outward signs that he is full of wisdom. And if he has a cool looking cane, also show some respect lest he rap you on the head with it.

You'd think with all that wisdom that he would have taken better care of his teeth.

MONSTER MONTH: Day 16 – The Orthodontist

You know, whether scaring or eating little children, most monsters use their teeth quite often. And whether it’s a crooked snarl, or just a bad overbite, the sensible monster realizes he really needs to take care of his pearly whites. After all, one must think of the children in such situations – this is all for them.

When a gurgling, belching beast has need of such care, he turns to the trusty ORTHODONTIST. To take on a job such as this, the medical professional needs to be a person of quiet temperament and not easily intimidated. Their skill with odd-shaped teeth and the ability to withstand unfathomable stench is paramount. And they need to make sure the patient is well-stocked with the proper insurance.

This patient is the easy one. The last one had two heads and an attitude.

MONSTER MONTH: Day 15 – The Pirate Beast

Aaaarrrr maties! What if the scourge of man were to be combined with the scourge of the beastie world? No, – I’m not speaking of lawyers, though you are close. I speak of THE PIRATE BEAST!

One might be hesitant to cross paths with such a creature. He can be mean, ornery and just a little stinky. (Again, any comparisons to lawyers are entirely yours to make.) Just beware of the blade, teeth, and hook of his furry wrath!

Sure, he looks mean, but if you can manage to get your hand under his hook arm, you'll find he's quite ticklish!

MONSTER MONTH: Day 12 – Frankenstein’s Monster

What MONSTER MONTH could be complete without at least one inclusion of Dr. Frankenstein’s monster? Despite having deeply explored this character in my “Frankenlisa” painting from several months ago (CLICK HERE if you missed it!), once in awhile he keeps rearing his strange flat head amongst my sketches. Here’s a doodle of him created in ink right from the pages of my sketchbook!

Try as he may, Frankie just isn't coordinated enough for "Thriller."

If you are a user of Facebook, come join the Chad Frye • Illustration Guy fan page where today I have unveiled a new contest open only to registered fans there! MONSTER MONTH: Day 1 – Frankenchad

Welcome to the FIRST DAY of Monster Month here on the Chad Frye • Illustration Guy blog!

To kick off the event, the monster of the day today is none other than ME !  It only seemed fair that I set the example to all the monsters to follow in the days to come.

Chad Frye as Frankenstein's Monster

“Why monsters?” you ask? Earlier this year I got caught up in creating an illustratiton of Frankenstein’s monster in a Mona Lisa setting, and I just caught the bug. Ever since then I’ve been doodling monsters. If you click on the Monsters category on the blog home page, you’ll be able to see other monsters that currently reside on the blog.

So for now, strap yourselves in, and get ready as we unveil a fun month of hairy beasts and creepy eyes! Hope you enjoy them as much as I did drawing them!
